Wii U Basic Gets £70 Price Cut in the UK

These still exist, apparently.

Hey, does anyone even remember the Wii U Basic at this point? If you’ve forgotten- Nintendo introduced the Wii U in two flavors, the ‘Deluxe’ 32GB set, black in color, and the cheaper, white colored Wii U ‘Basic,’ which came with only 8GB of on board storage. The white model turned out to be unpopular, and Nintendo soon dropped it worldwide, dropping the ‘Deluxe’ model to its price, and just clearing the inventory of the white one.

Well, it appears that the UK still has some excess inventory of the Basic Model left, more than two years after launch, and a year after its discontinuation. To clear inventory, retail channels, and shelf space, Nintendo has reportedly dropped the price of the unity by as much as £70.

However, at the same time, the price of the Premium Model (which is what the Deluxe model is called in Europe) remains unaffected, and new Premium sets will probably replace the Basic ones soon.

So, if you want a Wii U, and don’t mind the lack of storage (which can be remedied with a USB based hard drive anyway)- a Basic Wii U might not be such a bad idea.
