Wii U to face stock shortages in the UK

Pre-order now!

MCV is reporting that Wii U will be facing stock shortages in the UK when it launches in November. There are apparently 25,000 units sanctioned by Nintendo for the market, which will be sold out soon, the company expects.

The Wii U is the successor to the Wii which is the best selling current gen console in the UK, and such a scenario where its successor sells out at launch should be logical.

Nintendo have also revealed that the stock levels are “tight”.

“Wii U stock levels will be tight on day one. However, we will be providing retailers with regular stock deliveries in the run-up to Christmas in order to meet demand as quickly as possible.”

The stock available will not meet the number of pre-orders made according to specific retailers in the region (Via CVG). This is one way to make the console scarce and increase demand, and is also a really old strategy to boost stock.
