“Console war” wow you are really interested in real world issues

You know what would end the “console war”? Gaming itself. Now what you just said will not end the console war at all and it makes NO sense that they should stop making exclusives.

Listen, there would still be a debate. People would argue about the apps then, or the network services, or the controller, or who has better deals. Go look at any 2 similar products competing for sales, and you’ll find people fighting over them on the net….consoles aren’t exclusive to this kind of thing. Look at how gamers argue over PS Now vs Ea Access, or GWG vs PS Plus, or the PS4 UI vs the Xbox UI, who has what features etc. Or Microsoft’s Indie policy. Exclusives are a part of that whole “differentiating” ecosystem.

And when u say “who has the better technology”, well here’s the thing; in order for consoles to be financially marketable, they have to launch within a $500 price range. Thing is, the system parts cost money, and each platform holder pays roughly the same cash for them (AMD cpu and gpu for example) so we can’t expect one company to offer a huge power advantage over the other, probably minimal.

Look at how almost every 2 systems that launched within 1 year from each other were comparable in performance; GENESIS, SNES, PS3, 360, etc. And if u did want a NEO GEO, it’d cost u a ton, and that isn’t viable long term.

So even if one was slightly more powerful, it’d run multiplat games with maybe some better shadows, or better anti-aliasing, etc. Nothing dramatic that would be the “clear winner”. So what’s left is exclusive games imo.

Also, what’s the purpose of creating a console that offers no unique experience? Why would u as a platform holder want to look like the next guy?

That’s my point. If there aren’t exclusives then there isn’t a unique experience and the choice is based solely on superior technology which would end the console wars because there are no legitimate disputes anymore over technological superiority.

Yeah the point is, each company’s out here to make profits, so they have to sell a unique experience to gamers. If they’re being unethical, then they deserve criticism. Other than that, people just tend to be tribal. And THAT’S why there’s always been console wars…

Besides, even IF MS did it, I have serious doubts about Sony and/or Nintendo following suit.

Hunh? How else do u get someone to buy your console if u can’t offer a unique experience vs the other guy? What other options are there? HBO GO?

Oh and people would still find a way to trash the other system regardless of exclusives…
