Neither does Microsoft, but when a US company is told to do something by a US Government Agency, they can't just be like, "nah... I don't wanna" and flip them off. I'm just confounded by the hypocrisy of Sony fans when you know you won't delete your facebook, or toss your Android phone away even though they get your data as well, but Microsoft you go apeshit over.

The voice commands alone make Kinect a worthwhile investment. I remember playing SOCOM Navy Seals on the PS2 and although the voice commands were rarely understood and it was very limited, it opened up a whole new world of controls. Realistically, on a control pad you have two thumbsticks and two other buttons you can use at the same time. And with action heavy games you rarely can afford the opportunity to take your thumbs off the sticks, making ABXY redundant.
Voice commands open up a whole new control experience with limitless potential.
The Kinect camera also allows for a new dimension in controls. How many people lean to the side to try and get a peak round a corner or over something. Kinect will allow those natural uncontrollable movements to have a reaction on screen. No longer will people be laughing at you for swaying from side to side in your chair as it will be an active part of the gameplay.
I think I'm right that Kinect can also recognise up to 16 people at once? but even if its only 4. the fact that with PS4 you need a controller to be recognised by their camera means spending another $150 on top of having to buy the EyeToy and with those move controller wands adds another couple of hundred bucks to get the full experience from it with 4 people, whereas with the Kinect all you need is yourself.
Once Devs start making use of the Kinect there will be a large Gap opening up between PS4 and XB1. XB1 will be the new Wii, PS4 will be the new XB360, Wii U, through their lack of any marketing and failure to bring many games to the table, will be the new DreamCast.
Xbox 1 is a multimedia toy, with the added bonus of being a high spec games console. PS4 is looking to be a dedicated games machine. People want toys, and people far outweigh gamers.

I don't want those "features" or the camera/microphone they're for. Get that through your thick skulls. As long as kinect is required, I will never buy this monstrosity for that sole reason.

No, the Sony fanboys are blind to this fact. Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and a few other companies participated in the whole NSA thing, but you don't hear people pissing and moaning about their iPhone or Android phone watching them.

In that case firebird, get rid of your smartphone, laptop with embedded camera, and rid yourself of the nuisance of being a part of the modern world. It seems that you don't understand that the US government have been forcing legitimate American businesses to participate in violating our privacy for quiet a while now. As disgusting as it is, if the US government asked for info, by law these businesses must oblige. This is not a MS thing, and for your info every business that collect some kind of data on us are in on it. So don't go around pretending that it's only MS because I know you know better. But then again, maybe not.
