It was more than the prototypes. They had SDK’s and like you said it was the solider and the curve in the middle of the 360 were it restricted airflow.

That was just a prototype it was never going to end up in a launch unit. It was overkill and expensive. The issue was the lead free solder melting below the normal threshold and breaking solid contacts. Which is why the towel trick worked.
