I agree. Other closed hardware follows the same suit like phones. You theoretically get an upgrade for a phone and your stuff just transfers over. For a home console I think this is a very smart way to go.

When the next console they release is announced, XB1X Scorpio will probably be the new baseline if they continue this tick-tock trend…

Meanwhile, the original XB1 will still run those games but the quality will be very low level and most gamers will be compelled to upgrade then.

The first clue was the blending of this gen and last gen with remasters which are still being released to this day and obviously to good enough success for the practice to continue. The 2nd clue was the XB Play Anywhere setup which MS is fully supporting and the 3rd step was backward compatibility of not only the X360 but now the OG XB as well. All of these practices speak of PC perks but for those who prefer a closed box system.

Every system will bleed into the next, basically making an upgrade every 4 years or so palatable for some but also not absolutely necessary if ur not ready. And most of all, it keeps them from having to compete with Sony for overall market share since every system will play the same games until they actually can’t. With Sony dominating EU and JP, Xbox will have a hard time catching up let alone beating them on a worldwide scale. I actually think it’s a smart play for all those reasons and will be buying X1X on day one.
