Sony could do a $50 off sale on PS4 Pro at holiday 2017. Considering the power differential and bad press surrounding this gen’s launch, MS could have done an XB1 SKU at $350 w/o Kinect. Cementing a pack-in that adds $100-150 who’s utility, reliability and desirability was questionable at best was a huge mistake. The policy changes intended for XB1’s launch were obviously suicidal, and I don’t know how the team went with them. Perhaps it was under duress. Options should have been made available for all potential customers.

You make good points. I’m someone who is always looking for better performance, and will pay for it. My multi-platform gaming is done overwhelmingly on PC. Console exclusives (not on PC) are played on an XB1. The specs were disappointing at launch (as were those of PS4, to a lesser extent) and I would welcome the Scorpio. Much of it’s punch is undermined by my PC, yet there is still get utility in my case. The XB1 would end up at my parents house so I no longer have to travel with it on holidays.

People need to consider the power/performance differential between XB1 and Scorpio versus PS4 and PS4-Pro. Even if Scorpio’s pricing exceeds $399, the console could be the XBOX option for a greater percentage of customers, perhaps coming close to XB1 sales in time. Many potential buyers have not joined the generation or have a PS4, and in time grow curious. Yes, MS have to expand the exclusive library and bring distinct, tangible & practical features to Scorpio. Identifiable utility in bounds will attract a wide variety of customers.
