Nintendo’s hardware and software is doing exceptionally well right now- we’ve already reported on the strong sale of the Switch, as well as its top games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2. However, in all that commotion, what was probably overlooked was that in just a month, Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has also managed to sell 1.06 million copies worldwide.
This not only continues the resurgence of Japanese games worldwide, with several niche franchises breaking into the mainstream, but also makes Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the highest selling game in the series yet. It’s a well deserved success, because warts and all (and Xenoblade 2 has a lot of warts), it’s a great game.
With Xenoblade 2 now having secured its place as at least a mid tier seller for Nintendo, it will be interesting to see what the future of Monolith Soft is. We know they are currently working on a brand new IP- but will a Xenoblade 3 be fast tracked?
Until then, you can (and should) check out Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
