Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata says that the Wii U’s year end sales have been strong. He admits that while the Wii U hasn’t sold out everywhere, and that its sales have not been as impressive as the Wii’s when it was launched, they have still been pretty steady.
“At the end of the Christmas season, it wasn’t as though stores in the U.S. had no Wii U left in stock, as it was when Wii was first sold in that popular boom,” Iwata told Reuters. “But sales are not bad, and I feel it’s selling steadily”
He also said that selling two SKUs of a system for the first time in the firm’s history proved to be challenging. “It was the first time Nintendo released two models of the game console at the same time … and I believe there was a challenge with balancing this,” said Iwata. “Specifically, inventory levels for the premium, deluxe package was unbalanced as many people wanted that version and couldn’t find it.”
