Youtube’s new copyright measures are prompting severe outrage in the gaming industry, causing major publishers to take stand against the video site’s new measures to protect IP. Today, Google finally responded to all the internet rage.
“We recently enabled Content ID scanning on channels identified as affiliates of MCNs [Multi Channel Networks],” a YouTube spokesperson told Polygon. “This has resulted in new copyright claims for some users, based on policies set by the relevant content owners.”
As ever, channel owners can easily dispute Content ID claims if they believe those claims are invalid,” added the spokesperson.
The gaming industry seems to be doing just that, as major publishers like Ubisoft, Deep Silver, and Blizzard all released statements yesterday instructing channel holders and Youtube users on how to dispute copyright flagging, so they could get the content in question cleared immediately.
But the extra hoops that people have to jump through will certainly have some effect on the thriving gamer culture on Youtube, that’s for sure.
