Ace Combat Infinity is the next installment in Namco’s flight simulator/combat franchise, bound exclusively to the PlayStation 3; series fans and veterans may rejoice at the franchise returning to its perceived home after some deviations to the Xbox 360 nearly a decade ago, but that joy will probably be short lived when they realize that Ace Combat Infinity is, in fact, a free to play game.
Free to play may be a toxic term in the industry and among gamers, but if done right, it can create some compelling quality content- see, for instance, Riot’s League of Legends and Valve’s Dota 2. Namco’s Ace Combat Infinity also looks like a free to play game done right, and might represent the best model for this franchise moving forward.
The newest video that you see above hammers the point home- it shows off the single campaign and the co-op missions that form the game, and gives the game a release date in Japan. Hopefully a western release follows soon.
