Afro Samurai 2 Pulled From Sale, “Game Was a Failure”

Subsequent volumes of the game have been cancelled.

Remember Afro Samurai 2, the terrible action title which faced much critical scorn and was reviled for its technical issues? As it turns out, the game was recently pulled off Steam, Xbox Live and PSN by publisher Versus Evil. Refunds are also currently being offered.

As CGM reports, Versus Evil GM Steve Escalante apologized for the game’s state and announced the cancellation of volumes 2 and 3 of the series. “The game was a failure. We could not do, in good conscience, volume 2 and volume 3.

“So we’ve begun the process, it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way, but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this.’”

Though this was the best option at the end of the day, one has to wonder why Afro Samurai 2 was released in such a state to begin with. Then again, when push comes to shove, both a developer and publisher may be motivated to try and recoup as much on the initial cost as possible.
