Steam is growing from strength to strength and that’s what this image below shows, really. It still has a long way to go though – in convincing people that there are better alternatives to piracy.
There are plenty of stats here at your disposal, but the main one that stands out is that, Steam reached 5 million concurrent users on December 2011.
40 million people have Steam accounts which is almost equal to Xbox Live, and while 15 million or so Xbox Live members are gold account holders, it’s still a massive feat indeed.
Steam also has 51% market share for digital distribution on PC, with other services clearly lagging behind in content and service provided. Game developers also get plenty of money by putting their wares on Steam, because that’s the main USP of digital distribution. Steam takes 30%, but hey, Gabe’s gotta eat, amirite?
These stats are pretty awesome, and show why Steam is on the top.
