Analyst Thinks Playstation VR Will Sell Nearly 2 Million Units This Year

It appears the VR wars are about to begin.

Now that we are getting a bit of info about the Oculus Rift, there is even more speculation about what Sony might have up its sleeve when it comes to PlayStation VR. One particular market research firm believes the PlayStation VR is going to be quite successful with nearly two million units sold in the first year. The company believes it will be able to hit these numbers despite the fact that the device is going to be priced anywhere between $400 and $600. That is more expensive than any console on the market right now.

Of course, the PlayStation VR is apparently going to be kind of a console in its own right, considering there are said to be about 100 or more games currently in development.  According to Playstation Lifestyle, the firm SuperData still doesn’t think the console VR sales numbers generated will be that all impressive when compared to other versions of the technology. The firm believes console VR will take up just 5 percent of the projected 38 million install base this year, compared to 7 percent for premium mobile VR, 17 percent for PC VR, and 71 percent for light mobile VR.

The most interesting factor the research company found is that hardcore gamers are willing to spend about $300 for a VR device. 74 percent of people under 18 in the US said they were “very interested” in VR. Whether or not price tags upwards of $500 as the Oculus Rift is will change that interest, will be found out as these devices actually hit the market.
