Animal Crossing: New Horizons Backup Save Feature Being Considered For The Future

But the feature will not be there at launch.

Nintendo is a weird company. They are unparalleled in the level of quality and polish they can bring to a game, but when it comes to technical features the company can sometimes feel like it’s about three steps (or more) behind everyone else. Take the case of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game sure to be one of the company’s biggest of the year by a large margin. It was revealed that the game would only allow one island per console, and also it will not allow for data backup and transfer. While both are bummers, it seems the latter could be fixed.

Via the official Nintendo Japan website, as translated by VGC, the company is now considering adding the save backup feature in the case of the game being stolen or system broken. Unfortunately, it seems the option definitely won’t be there at launch at this point going by the wording. No time frame is given for when this update will come about, either.

“Additionally, while this game does not support the cloud save feature on Nintendo Switch Online, we are considering allowing this software to use the ‘save data’ back-up feature for those who are Nintendo Switch Online members as a unique feature in case the software breaks, is lost, or stolen.

“The time period for this hasn’t been decided but as soon as we know more, we’ll make an announcement.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is slated to come out exclusively for the Switch on March 20th. Hopefully, we can get some save backup option sooner rather than later post-launch.
