Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Have A Classic GameCube-Style Camera Option

Good news for all the purists out there.

When Animal Crossing first on the GameCube (N64 in Japan) nearly two decades ago, it had a regular old top-down camera perspective- but the first game in the series remains the only one with that visual style. Starting with Animal Crossing: Wild World on the Nintendo DS, every single Animal Crossing game since then has sported a “rolling log” camera effect.

While that has its own charm, there are many Animal Crossing purists who still prefer the look of the very first games, and have been demanding a return to that style for years. With the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo are finally making a compromise that will please fans of both styles.

GameXplain recently uploaded a video containing 20 minutes of off-screen gameplay footage from the upcoming title (which you can view below) from its massive ongoing PAX East booth, and amidst all the stuff show off, the video also confirms that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will give players the option to return to the original game’s flat top-down perspective. Apparently, all you’ll have to do to switch between the two styles is press the right analog tick. Take a look below- the relevant portion has been timestamped.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is due out for the Switch on March 20.
