Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved is out today on Xbox One through the Game Preview Program but the developer has pledged to support local split-screen co-op for players on Xbox One.
Creative director and co-founder Jesse Rapczak told GameSpot that, “Many developers are abandoning split-screen local play, but we couldn’t stomach that for Ark! Friends and families can look forward to working together to survive the environment, tame its inhabitants and unravel the mysteries of the island – all from the same couch.”
The “many developers” line refers to 343 Industries and its decision to remove local split-screen co-op support for Halo 5: Guardians. ARK: Survival Evolved isn’t getting split-screen support today and it won’t support online split-screen but the developer is currently testing it internally. Check the above screenshot to get an idea of what it looks like. You can expect local split-screen co-op to be implemented in early 2016 so stay tuned for more information in the coming months.
