PlatinumGames began an unlikely partnership with Nintendo when they launched Bayonetta 2 exclusively for the Wii U in 2014. Since then, they’ve followed up on that with The Wonderful 101, a role in the development of Star Fox Zero, the upcoming Bayonetta 3, and, of course, the most recently released Astral Chain, which has been getting rave reviews across the board.
Owing to that universal praise, there are many who’re demanding that Astral Chain is made available to wider audiences. One such fan took to Twitter, asking PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya if the game will ever be out on the PS4. Kamiya responded, suggesting that that’s a decision that rests with the game’s investor and publisher Nintendo, also indicating that seeing Astral Chain on anything but the Switch is about as likely as seeing the likes of Metroid, Mario, or Zelda on the PS4.
“Well… it would be great to have Mario, Zelda, and Metroid on the PS4 too,” said Kamiya (translated by Jack of All Controllers). “As for me, do I hate PlayStation…? I’m just a developer fulfilling my contractual obligations so I don’t know, maybe you can try asking my publisher and investor Nintendo?”
In spite of being exclusive to the Switch, it doesn’t seem like Astral Chain’s sales are being harmed all that much. It debuted on top of the UK charts, and in doing so, became the first ever PlatinumGames title to do that, also becoming the developer’s fourth best launch of all time. Read more on that through here.
