Last night the head of Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer posted a cryptic tweet that has sparked a plethora of rumors surrounding an anniversary edition update/release of Halo 2, as the game’s ten-year anniversary is approaching in November of this year. The tweet from Spencer read:

“Never get tired of questions on what’s coming, Just can’t always answer as we need news at events. Halo 2 is a good game…”

Additionally, earlier this morning Microsoft released a statement to Eurogamer stating that they intend to publish a Halo game on Xbox at some point this year. Whether that will be a Halo 2 reboot or a new Halo sequel is unclear at the moment. The statement read:

“Other than confirming that your Halo journey on Xbox One begins in 2014, we have made no announcements related to specific titles. Any report or listing to the contrary is based solely on speculation and rumour.”

Last week a plethora of upcoming games were leaked for the Xbox One and one of them was Halo 2 Anniversary for the Xbox One. Stay tuned to Gamingbolt to find out what the Halo announcement will be.

Earlier today on the Titanfall website a faction of in-game characters was revealed, providing details on the specific members of the group as well as how they will tie into the game’s overarching themes, gameplay and story line. In this specific update, we are introduced to The Militia.

The Militia are the military unit of Frontier’s territorial defense pact. They are comprised of a hodgepodge of different personality types from different background that come together to for am impressive albeit slightly unorthodox fighting unit.

In this reveal we are introduced to three characters that make up the militia. First there’s MacAllen, a Titan War vet who served as an officer onboard the IMS odyssey on a peacekeeping mission for the IMC. Next is Bish, an electrical engineer from the planet Earth. And finally there’s Sarah, who has a revenge vendetta against the IMC due to the loss of several of her family members.

"We’re definitely aiming to reduce some of the frustration of not knowing and of being confused because things aren’t clear."

In a recent interview with VG24/7, Tak Miyazoe, the producer of Dark Souls 2 said that he and the rest of the team at Namco Bandai Games are aiming to reduce the confusion and frustration factors found in Dark Souls 2. Miyazoe was quoted:

“We’re definitely aiming to reduce some of the frustration of not knowing and of being confused because things aren’t clear.

“There’ll always be things that aren’t fully explained because that’s part of From’s design ethos and it’s important to maintain that sense of realisation when you figure something out for yourself, but we want to minimise those elements that make you feel like something is so obscure it’s pointless, because if you get to that stage then you’re really just a step away from stopping caring about it.

“There were some elements like that in Dark Souls and while Dark Souls 2 won’t explain everything to you – in fact it will hardly explain anything to you – it’s about being able to offer that faint light of hope that makes you want to find more information about something and then giving you the tools to do so,” he continued.

“Maintaining that mystery is an important part of Dark Souls 2 but it’s just about streamlining that process a little bit and reinforcing player choice.”

What are your thoughts on this issue? Let us know in the comments section below.

Launching February 12th.

Wargaming, the developers behind World of Tanks, has announced that on February 12th of this year an Xbox 360 version of the game will be released. The game’s Xbox 360 version has been in development from Wargaming West, which was at one point known as Day 1 Studios, the developers responsible for the Microsoft-published MechAssault.

The Xbox 360 edition of World of Tanks will be free to play for gamers who have an Xbox Live Gold account, and for all others there will be a seven day free trail period, during which players can get a feel for whether or not they want to purchase the full game.

While there will be over 100 tanks available to play at launch, gamers should expect that there will be micro transactions as part of the game in order to unlock and download premium tanks and special in-game features. We can also expect that content will be continually added to World of Tanks.

The Crew, an upcoming open-world racing game from Ubisoft received a screenshot update today from Ubisoft via the game’s Facebook page. The new screen of the game shows off an all new playable car, the Lamborghini Murcielago. The Murcielago is a sleek and stylish car built for a combination of looks and speed.

This is in a direct contrast with the last car released for Ubisoft’s The Crew, the Shelby GT 500, which is a muscle car built for power. The Shelby GT 500 was also featured in the popular film, ‘The Fast And The Furious’, as protagonist Nicolas Cage’s prized vehicle.

What’s really interesting about The Crew is that it’s creative director, Julian Gerighty doesn’y categorize it as a racing game—rather he says it is an RPG with large-scale multiplayer elements (racing).

The Crew is set for a Q3 2014 release that has yet to be specifically announced. It will be playable across Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 box art for the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn has been released by Square Enix. Development of the game is trucking along and the official release date for PlayStation 4 is set at April 14th.

The cover art is quite different from that of the Japanese version of the game, opting for a darker and more threatening image of an aggressive looking Black Mage, while the Japanese version features a shot of several different characters in non-action format. Producer/director Naoki Yoshida offered a comment on the game’s PlayStation 4 version on the official FFXIV forums:

“We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished on the PlayStation 4, and as we set out on this world tour, we’re looking forward to sharing with players around the globe all the cool features offered by this new version of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn.”

Yes, it may be one of the more ridiculous names we’ve ever seen in gaming, but that doesn’t make it any less of an awesome game. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution now officially has an all new gaming mode included: Ninja World Tournament mode.

In Ninja World Tournament Mode, players will get to compete in a 4-way melee combat against 3 computer-controlled opponents in an all-new tournament-style environment. In order to win a match, players will need to collect a certain number of battle orbs, which are dropped by damaging your opponents. The first person to reach the goal wins.

Tournament entrants will participate in multiple battles as they work across the island on which the tournament is held until they make their way up to the coveted S ranked battle, which will determine the tournament winner and the ‘Ultimate Ninja’.

Excited? Let us know in the comments section below.

Earlier today on Twitter, developers Telltale Games teased the second episode of the point and click adventure series, The Walking Dead: Season Two. The exact words from the Telltale Games twitter were that the game is “just around the corner”. According to an image released with the post, we can see that this latest installment will continue to feature the protagonist from previous episode, Clementine, as she wanders through the zombie-ridden world interacting with other survivors.

This upcoming episode will be the second episodic installment in The Walking Dead: Season 2, following the first episode, titled, All That Remains. The choices that gamers made in The Walking Dead: Season One, along with it’s DLC 400 Days will reportedly have an effect on the way that events unfold in The Walking Dead: Season 2.

The series has garnered quite a bit of attention for it’s intense and addictive style of game play, as well as its overall unique launch strategy. With a new episode being released every month or so, gamers get a chance to beat what’s out there and not have to wait a long time for a follow up, with the end result being longer than your average game.

And maybe other virtual reality platforms.

In a recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, the president of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley announced that, with the upcoming release of EverQuest Next, the game will include support for virtual reality gaming software Oculus Rift because, “it’s really damn cool and programmers love that stuff.” As of now EverQuest Next is still in development.

In response to Smedly’s statement on Reddit, another user asked about the potential for EverQuest Next compatibility with other virtual reality systems that may be in competition with Oculus Rift, such as Virtuix Omni and the STEM System from Sixense. Smedly did not confirm or deny whether either will be compatible with the game, but did say, “Hearing good things about 2 competitors… one of which actually comes from Sony.”

So while it has not been confirmed that EverQuest Next will include virtual reality support beyond Oculus Rift, it is clear that the prevalence of virtual reality gaming is beginning to spread. It’s an exciting new frontier filled with possibility.
