Avalanche Studios Came Close to Creating Open-World Star Wars Game

Probably would've saved LucasArts had it happened.

The biggest news of the day was that Disney Interactive had signed a multi-year deal with EA to produce Star Wars games. Some of the biggest studios would be involved, including Visceral Games, DICE and Bioware, with DICE even stating that they would include Frostbite 3 technology.

However, former Avalanche Studios development director Oskar Burman shared some interesting info via Twitter. “Actually, wanting to work with Star Wars goes deep in Sweden. Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we almost got that deal when I was at Avalanche.”

Founder and CCO Cristofer Sundberg later chimed in that, “If they had given us the deal back then, LucasArts would be alive today. A massive Star Wars open-world game! We would have rocked it.”

And when it comes to open world, Avalanche surely knows what its doing. Would you have been stoked for an open world Star Wars game? Or is the thought of a Frostbite 3 Star Wars game better? Let us know below.
