Avalanche Studios: PS4 Definitely Easier to Develop For

Avalance Studios is looking to be "smart on all platforms" though.

With the PlayStation 4, Sony has been making more efforts to ensure their console is “developer focused”. This includes roping in more indie devs and relaxing a lot of the standards usually necessary when submitting games.

Avalance Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg weighed in when speaking to Gamasutra and stated that, “It’s definitely easier to develop for. I think their approach for letting smaller developers in is fantastic. And all of the [control] inputs creates an opportunity. They’ve created a platform for us to make better games.”

Of course when asked about the future of consoles, creative director Stefan Ljungqvist, stated that, “Maybe there’s no console anymore. This is convergence – Smart TV, Netflix is on PS3. It’s already happening. I don’t think we should disregard that ‘consoles,’ or whatever we call them, as they will be important to living room entertainment. But there is risk. Will the hardware install base grow as fast as the last generation?”

Their strategy is of course to “be smart on all platforms. For us, I think a mix is good.”

Sundberg also famously stated that the PS4 would out-power PCs for years to come. So there’s that.
