Though the franchise has been mostly dormant since FASA Corporation went under, Harebrained Schemes has resurrected BattleTech and will be delivering a new turn-based strategy title in the universe later this month. While players can do missions for all the various houses, the latest story trailer highlights the main drive in the campaign. Check it out below.
Described as “Game of Thrones meets Pacific Rim in space”, BattleTech will see players fighting with a deposed queen against her uncle after a coup. Knights are replaced by hulking mechs and their pilots but the internal politics and civil war definitely channels medieval sentiment. The good news is that players can also make their own path by grinding reputation for other houses.
As creator Jordan Weisman notes, “It’s a wonderful way to get a true, classic Battletech story. This really opens it up for the player to extend their own story of their mercenary unit, in whichever direction they want to go.”
Though this could potentially facilitate multiple playthroughs, sticking closely to some houses might also result in different story consequences. We’ll learn if that’s actually the case when BattleTech releases on April 24th for PC.
