Bayonetta 3 Will Have To Raise the Bar from Bayonetta 2, Platinum Says

Platinum also wants The Wonderful 101 on the Switch.

Bayonetta 2 is widely considered to be the greatest action game ever made. The game took the already nearly perfect formula of the first game, and then polished it, cut out the fat, and made it a masterpiece of pacing. It was so good, in fact, that in many ways, it is hard to see just howBayonetta 3 would possibly improve on it.

And yet, a Bayonetta 3 is coming. It has been announced to be in the works for the Switch, so we know it’s on the way. But how exactly does it plan to live up to the superlative first and second entries? Speaking to Eurogamer, Platinum’s Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya said via a translator, “Bayonetta 2 was a fantastic title and [we] need to make sure this is leaps and bounds above that. [We] know that the fans expect crazier, better, tighter action games. If [we’re] going to put out Bayonetta 3, it’s going to have to raise the bar.”

They also talked about their desire to have The Wonderful 101 out on the Nintendo Switch, noting that they are trying to negotiate a release with Nintendo (who owns the IP rights), and that they are trying to drum up fan engagement by asking them to pressure Nintendo into acquiescing. The Wonderful 101 was a quirky, eccentric game that got lost with a lot of other great games on the Wii U. Hopefully one day, it gets a chance to shine again.

Bayonetta 3 is in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
