The Metal Gear series may be finished- after all, Hideo Kojima is now no longer at Konami, and the story was concluded anyway- but there is still a movie based on the franchise apparently incoming, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
During E3, at the E3 Coliseum, Vogt-Roberts had the chance to ask Kojima what his advice would be for him, as he set out to reinterpret the legendary franchise for the silver screen. Kojima’s response? To betray the audience and their expectations. “Do the same thing as me, betray your audience’s expectations,” he said, grinning.
That sounds about right- indeed, that is what Kojima made an art form of as he worked on Metal Gear over the years. Whether with Metal Gear Solid 2‘s Raiden fake out, or Metal Gear Solid 5‘s final twist, Kojima has made a career out of subverting audience expectations. May that carry over into the movie as well.
