Treyarch has announced that the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will have an option to install a texture pack on to the HDD, but it will not be compulsary.
The pack does not enhance the game or how it runs at all. Its function is to place less burden on the Blu-Ray disc drive, as the game normal doess when running without the install. The space required to install this pack will be “a non-trivial”, but no specific numbers were given.
“Black Ops 2 has an option to “Install Textures to HDD,” Blops 2’s design director David Vonderhaar wrote on the Black Ops community forums.
“When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn’t necessarily give us any significant performance gains,” he explained, “hey explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out. Roger that.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 releases on November 18th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, with a Wii U launch also planned.
