Brazil Drops PS4 Prices To R $1,999

"Even with the subsidy the price is expensive."

As of October 20th, Sony has announced that the PS4 will retail at $ 3999 in Brazil, and that the MSRP of games for the console will be $179. This high price point is allegedly due to the fact that Sony is projecting an overall loss of profit in the Brazillain market, and so this high price is an effort to reduce that loss. Sony head of Latin America, Mark Stanley issued a statement:

“Even with the subsidy the price is expensive, and honestly, we would not even sell a unit to R $ 3,999. There is a fair price and the value is not in agreement with the work we are doing in Brazil, where our effort is to lower the price of the hardware whenever possible, “says Stanley.

After much deliberation and debate a deal has been arched between the Brazillian government and Sony. The PS4 will now officially retail in Brazil at the reduced price of $1999. The consoles will now be imported and no longer produced within Brazil, which should save Sony some money on their end.

All in all I’d say it’s a relatively good day to be a Brazilian gamer, although still an expensive one.
