Even with the massive success of things like Call of Duty: Warzone, which has now seen more than 60 million players, it can be easy to forget just what a behemoth the Call of Duty series is and how much work goes into the franchise. It’s been on the top of the charts for well over a decade, and has a multitude of studios involved in it at multiple points in time. One of those is Sledgehammer Games, and it seems they are pretty busy and about to get even busier.
In an interview with VentureBeat, COO of the studio, Andy Wilson, talked a lot about the studios growth as it enters its second decade on the market. He also drops that the developer is in the process of hiring up to 100 new employees (the studio already employees 200) for what is described as multiple projects the company is now involved in. While he doesn’t explicitly say it’s for Call of Duty, Sledgehammer Games has exclusively worked on the franchise recently with their last main title being Call of Duty WWII.
“Sledgehammer Games is entering a period of growth across both of our main studio locations: Foster City, California and Melbourne, Australia. We’re now a multi-project studio and we’re looking for a substantial number of new team members to join us. We’re looking across every discipline and various levels of seniority. It’s a pretty exciting time for our studio.”
It’s unclear yet if one of these projects is them being a lead on a new Call of Duty, or if the studio will now be spread out and become a general support studio. We know 2020 Call of Duty is on the way, but no details on who the lead developer is. We should get more details in the coming months.
