Call of Duty, Fallout and Star Wars Lift Physical Games Market In November In UK

The new Triforce of gaming.

November is always a big time for the gaming industry- all of the year’s biggest launches are usually stacked up in November, with major publishers wanting to cash in on the hysteria around the holiday season. This year was particularly fierce, with the launch of Fallout 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and Star Wars Battlefront- three major heavyweight retail champions.

Together, those three games worked magic for the UK retail game market. UK games stores generated over £172 million in November, GfK Chart-Track data reveals, and this comes down to these three blockbuster launches.

Together, those games sold just shy of 2 million copies across the UK (over a million come from Black Ops 3 alone), while in total, 4,399,297 physical games were sold between October 25th and November 21st. A massive achievement, no doubt.

More games were sold on PS4 than on Xbox One in this period, though the split was far closer than is usual- with Microsoft making some heavy gains thanks to the double launches of Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
