Call of Duty Infinite Warfare Dev Hit With Layoffs

Activision's internal studios see "realigning".

Though Activision has boasted of strong revenues for its year-end financials, it recently laid off a number of employees from internal studios like Infinity Ward and Beenox among others.

Kotaku reported on 20 employees being let go from Infinity Ward (whose Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was met with less than favourable first week sales but still performed well overall) while Beenox’s internal QA has been shut down. About 5 percent of total workforce has been released by Activision as whole, though a source told Gamasutra that 150 developers are still working at Beenox.

The publisher sent an official statement noting a “realigning” of resources for future projects while it would also “adapt to the accelerating transition to digital.” Make of that what you will.

What are your thoughts on the lay-offs? How will they influence the future of Infinity Ward and Beenox? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates.
