Activision’s two biggest releases of the year – Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WW2 and Bungie’s Destiny 2 – have become the top two best-selling games of the year in North America.
While Call of Duty: WW2 has managed to hit $1 billion in sales worldwide since launching on May 3rd, Destiny 2 became the second best-selling game since launching in September. Neither fact is really surprising given the marketing hype behind both titles.
This makes it the ninth straight year that Call of Duty was the highest grossing console gaming franchise in the region as per Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. Interestingly, even Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy warranted a mention as it was noted to be the best selling remastered collection in the PS4’s history.
Call of Duty: WW2 currently has its Winter event going on while Destiny 2 has introduced The Dawning as a means to fleece more microtransaction cash from its player base (which you can read more about here).
