Capcom Sees Scope For Recovery On The Back Of Strong PS4 and Switch Sales, In Spite Of Resident Evil 7 Underperformance

PS4 and Nintendo Switch sales lead to optimism on Capcom's part.

Capcom hasn’t had an easy time of things of late, especially with most of its games underperforming. In its latest financial report, Capcom revealed that Dead Rising 4 (under a million units sold), Resident Evil 7 (less than 200,000 units shipped las quarter), Street Fighter 5 (only 1.7 million units sold since launch), and Monster Hunter XX (underperforming by 400,000 units) have all failed to meet expectations.

And yet, Capcom sees potential for recovery and a rebound- mostly because of strong PS4 sales, and surging Nintendo Switch sales. In the case of the latter, Capcom admitted that Ultra Street Fighter 2 exceeded their expectations, and that they are now doubling down on Nintendo Switch support (it sounds like they were serious when they said that Ultra Street Fighter would be the test for future Switch support for them).

The Switch apart, Capcom also sees scope on the back of the PS4, presumably thanks to the impending launch of Monster Hunter World, which Capcom has confirmed will launch in the first three months of 2018. Hopefully, their PS4 and Switch ventures continue to find success- we want Capcom around, don’t we?
