There are plenty of options out now so there is probably no need to rush into the future.

Everyone is pretty pumped about the new consoles being released later this year, and rightfully so. There are some great things coming down the pipe in the near future that we can hardly wait for. What if you’re just not excited about the next generation hardware yet or want to stretch your buck a bit further though? Those new pieces of hardware aren’t exactly affordable for everyone on launch.

Well there are plenty of options out now and it’s easier than ever before to find older consoles, handhelds and PC hardware at great prices. Regardless of what you’re currently focused on; old, new or you’re just working on a massive back catalog of titles until the new consoles come out there is no need to rush into the future. With great older hardware available, or even the new and woefully under-appreciated Wii-U someone out there has whatever it is you might be looking for. We’ve got a whole industry’s history worth checking out before November.

The next generation is all about open world gaming.

There were a lot of great games at E3 this year, and with a bunch of new titles being announced for the next gen hardware that’s being released in November we’ve got plenty of great games that a had big open worlds to check out. Some are brand new ideas, while others are simply improvements on mechanics, the scope of the game and general advancements that come with some wonderfully new and thrilling technical choices.

There are plenty of great games on there way already and we can’t even get our hands on the new consoles yet. I for one have been chomping at the bit just waiting for my PS4 to show up so I can play some of these titles that have not failed in getting noticed by the public. With this leap in hardware it looks like we’re going to be seeing as a lot more cross-platform titles too. So no matter what you choose, there is going to be some great new worlds to explore come November. Even if open worlds aren’t your thing E3 had so many titles to offer this year there was a bit of something for everyone.

Just in case they planned to live down their shame, we call out the ten moments that embarrassed the folks at E3 2013.

E3 is always full of embarrassing moments and, whilst it may not have had some of the truly cataclysmic fails seen in previous years, the 2013 expo also had its fair share of embarrassment. From big game announcements to interviews, no company executive is safe.

Sometimes it’s due to an unavoidable technical fault, some incidents were caused by corporate ego and one particular example was the fault of a large group of douche bags that are sadly indicative of a small segment of the gaming press. Whether you love to hate or just want a cheap laugh, read on for ten embarrassing and awkward moments from this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

This generation has been a mighty interesting one. The dawn of online gaming as a standard for console games, a multimedia focus and motion controls have been just some of the revolutions seen in the seventh generation of consoles, but not all these changes have necessarily been for the better. We thought we’d focus on the truly great moments of this generation rather than the bad.

We look at the bad and the ugly of the E3 expo.

The Electronics Entertainment Expo is one of the most high profile entertainment events of the year, bringing all the big gaming announcements to us in a lavish fashion every July. That said, it’s not always awesome gameplay demos and good speeches.

It’s not even always about games in the case of Microsoft’s misguided decision to bring Usher on stage, but more on that fiasco later. Indeed, sometimes E3 just gets weird, and we thought it would be worth bringing together some of the expos most amusing moments for your reading pleasure. Let’s just hope we don’t jinx it and wind up seeing any colossal fails at this year’s show.

They might be right in the future but, for the time being at least, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is THE gaming event of the year.

It’s always a big deal, though its status is changing this year with Nintendo refusing to hold a conventional key note conference as in previous years. Still, there are bound to be some great reveals, and we’ve taken the time to round up ten hardware announcements you can look forward to.

We run through the actors best suited for the main roles of Kojima's masterpiece turned Hollywood movie.

Kojima Productions announced last August that a movie of Metal Gear Solid was in production. We know Avi Arad is producing the film, but little else has been alighted on in terms of staff or cast. Considering the movie is set in Alaska, there’s a high chance it will (at least partially) follow the story of the first Metal Gear Solid game.

That’s a double-edged sword though as, whilst the plot to Kojima’s PS1 masterpiece was solid (no pun intended), what actors could represent such iconic characters as Revolver Ocelot, Otacon and the big hero himself? It’s, naturally, a subjective issue, but we’ve lined up a casting list all the same.

Do you agree with the character cast? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

As games consoles have grown though, so have game worlds, to the point where any game franchise could open up into a larger experience with a less linear game world.

A lot of franchises need the push though, so we’ve taken the time to list ten franchises that could really do with injecting some open world gameplay into their formulas. Let’s just hope these ideas spread to the right people.

Now that we have it regularly though, it’s one of the most variable aspects of a game. Some titles hit the nail on the head, whilst others totally let down a decent story with lame vocal efforts.

Then there are those other rare examples where a vocal talent is so appropriate, so in character, or so down right odd that it’s just plain disturbing. We’ve got ten of them together for your reading pleasure. This list may contain spoilers!

We read between the lines for ten elements currently absent from the PS4.

Sony have been rectifying the past with the PS4. Their announcement in February showed a developer more in touch with its developers and audience than ever before. That said, we’re not the type to take good news at face value. Being the cynical lot that we are, we’re always looking between the lines at what’s missing rather than what’s there. With that in mind, we bring together ten things that the PS4 is missing at the moment.

A lot of things and features have already been announced but there are a few more things that Sony needs to clear up. Hopefully in the months leading up to E3, we will have a more clear picture of where the PlayStation 4 stands.
