Recent leaks won't affect its Extended Look on August 27th via Netflix, but it's left employees "frustrated and exhausted."

Rockstar Games has fallen victim to a new source of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, perpetrated by an entity known as CyberLeek. While Take-Two has subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord for information on their identity (as discovered by Kotaku), the developer is allegedly still unsure how it happened.

This is according to an anonymous source speaking to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who also noted that the perpetrator has not been identified (though it’s “all hands on deck” to find them). While Rockstar is going ahead with the promised Netflix reveal next week, “leaders and many employees” at the studio have been angered by the leaks. Others were reportedly feeling “frustrated and exhausted,” and it’s probably not just because they’re in the final three months of development.

When Grand Theft Auto 6 alpha gameplay leaked back in 2022, Rockstar took several steps to bolster its security. This included ending any work-from-home privileges and even reportedly shutting down a personal Discord. It led to 34 employees being fired for alleged breach of security, thus prompting legal proceedings.

Regardless, you can still look forward to Grand Theft Auto 6’s Extended Look on August 27th at 3 PM ET on Netflix before it hits YouTube and the official website at 9 PM ET. The game launches on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

XCOM and Star Wars fans can look forward to the turn-based tactics title launching at 8 AM PDT on August 27th for consoles and PC.

The future of other franchises like Mass Effect may as well be up in the air, but at least Star Wars fans can take solace in two more high-profile titles from EA. That includes Bit Reactor’s Star Wars Zero Company, which launches next week for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

According to a recent tweet, pre-loads are available on all platforms, with the tactics title slated to launch at 8 AM PDT worldwide. This applies to all versions, and if nothing else, we appreciate the uniformity.

Star Wars Zero Company launches on August 27th, and if you’re a fan of The Clone Wars or Andor, its gritty atmosphere may appeal to you. Set during the former, it follows Hawks as he leads a group of mercenaries to stop the Fathom. Along the way, you’ll also take out plenty of bandits and droids.

Bit Reactor makes no bones about the XCOM influence, but there is a twist to the usual turn-based, cover-focused gameplay: Advantage. By building Advantage, players can unleash powerful Ultimate abilities, although they’re shared across the team, so you’ll have to pick the right moment.

For more details on the gameplay loop, head here. It takes about 30 to 40 hours to finish, and the developer isn’t really sure if DLC is on the docket. Stay tuned for updates regardless.

The prologue for Creative Assembly's long-awaited sequel will be playable on the show floor for attendees, but that's pretty much it.

Sega is among many publishers attending Gamescom, bringing numerous high-profile titles like Persona 4 Revival, Stranger Than Heaven, and Crazy Taxi: World Tour. However, the most intriguing is Alien: Isolation 2. Announced in October 2024 and revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026, the sequel’s prologue will be playable on the show floor.

While that could indicate that development is further along than expected, Creative Assembly has plainly stated, “you won’t get a release date next week” in response to a Twitter user. It even replied, “You’re welcome” when thanked for letting others know.

For what it’s worth, Sega has never indicated where Alien: Isolation 2 fits in its release schedule – something it did last year for Persona 4 Revival and Stranger Than Heaven. That doesn’t mean the development team couldn’t suddenly drop a release window at, say, The Game Awards this December. But for now and the forthcoming week at Gamescom, it’s simply not ready.

Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Very little is known about the protagonist, but like many in the franchise, she’s part of a team that investigates a “mysterious vessel” that crashed on a colony-planet. It soon becomes clear that a Xenomorph is on the loose and she must do everything possible to survive. Head here for more details on how the studio wants to “expand and evolve” on the original.

Insomniac Games' latest action-adventure arrives on September 15th and marks a big departure from the Spider-Man series.

With less than four weeks before launch, Marvel’s Wolverine has gone gold. The title will be sent for certification on the PlayStation Store (because it’s a console exclusive), but it will also receive a proper physical version with a disc at launch.

Though Insomniac recommends the day-one patch for the absolute best performance, it confirmed that it’s fully playable on day one without it. Of course, you’ll need to download any future patches and potential content additions when they release, but we appreciate the sentiment.

As for post-launch plans, the developer hasn’t revealed anything. Several features, like New Game Plus and 60 FPS with ray tracing on Performance Mode for base PS5, are available on day one, which is a pretty big leap forward considering these were added later to the Spider-Man series.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15th for PS5. Rather than an origin story, the plot revolves around Logan saving mutants from Bolivar Trask, working alongside Sabertooth and Mystique from the Team X days. Jean Grey is also along for the ride, and Nathaniel Essex, who would become Mister Sinister in the comics, plays an important role.

While it’s a linear action-adventure, Insomniac promises plenty of optional content, including Nightmare Doors with time-based challenges. You can also collect new suits for Wolverine, though at least five are locked behind the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Tetsuya Nomura spoke about his general thought process in picking the ideal Disney films so their worlds can pop up in Kingdom Hearts.

Shortly after officially unveiling Coco as one of the Disney worlds players can explore in Kingdom Hearts 4, director Tetsuya Nomura has shed some more light on the decision. During a D23 panel (courtesy of Genki_JPN), Nomura spoke about how the Pixar film’s depiction of The Land of the Dead served as a good fit for Sora’s own story.

“Whenever I do have a chance to decide that we absolutely need to include a certain world. I generally think about how well it synergizes with the overall main story progression with Sora. When it comes to Kingdom Hearts 4, when I thought about the themes, we felt that Coco would be the best world that would help achieve that goal.”

Since Disney and Pixar have put out several movies since the 2019 release of Kingdom Hearts 3, Coco is unlikely to be the only entirely new world in Kingdom Hearts 4. There are plenty of strong candidates for Disney worlds to show up in the upcoming title thanks to the release of critically-acclaimed films like Luca, Soul, Encanto, and Elemental.

Interestingly, Disney has also focused quite a bit on releasing live-action adaptations of its older animated films in recent years, and as such, we might even get to see some of these make an appearance. Considering how much criticism films like 2019’s Aladdin and 2020’s Mulan have seen, however, this seems like an unlikely choice for Kingdom Hearts 4.

Coco was unveiled as one of Kingdom Hearts 4’s worlds with a trailer during D23. In it, we got to see Sora meeting Miguel, fighting Heartless during a performance, and even getting his hands on a new Keyblade design that matches the themes of The Land of the Dead. Adding an extra wrinkle to the proceedings is the fact that Donald and Goofy were both elsewhere – in the Underworld from Hercules – to meet Hades.

King Mickey will also be a playable character in Kingdom Hearts 4, with an extended version of the trailer giving us a glimpse at his sections. Co-director Tai Yasue has confirmed that Mickey’s sections involve “sort of puzzle-based game design that’s very different from Sora’s adventure, and I think it’s really refreshing and interesting.”

Kingdom Hearts 4 is being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While Square Enix hasn’t yet announced a concrete release date, Nomura has reaffirmed that there are no planned delays and that the game will come out in late 2027.

“We announced that the game is going to be coming late 2027, and I saw online that some people were saying, ‘oh, you know, maybe the actual release date might still get pushed back’.

“I just wanted to set the record straight – that is not happening. So I do hope people look forward to the game coming in 2027. A lot of the marketing for the game has only just started, and so I do hope that people also look forward to hearing more news as well.”

According to Jason Schreier, most of these projects eventually fell apart for "a variety of reasons", leaving only Destiny 2 and Marathon.

While Bungie currently seems to have its hands full with trying to make PvPvE extraction shooter Marathon more successful, a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has indicated that the studio once had several projects in development. In a new video, Schreier said that the team was working on Destiny 2, Marathon, and other games for a total of “five or six” projects before the studio was acquired by Sony.

“As part of that acquisition, Bungie also had a whole bunch of other live service games in the works that Sony wanted to see come out in the subsequent years in addition to, of course, Destiny 2, which is Bungie’s big ongoing project,” he explained before going on to discuss how “most of those projects fell apart” over the course of time “for a variety of reasons”.

It is worth noting that, currently, Bungie is in quite a dire state, having been hit by layoffs back in June that involved 292 job cuts. Many of these developers had been working on Destiny 2 at the time, according to Sony’s Herman Hulst. Reports at the time had also indicated that studio head Justice Truman was stepping down.

In July, this would then be followed by the departure of Marathon’s game director, Joe Ziegler. The role has since been taken on by Del Chafe III, and Julia Nardin has been made the creative director on the title.

“Both of them have been operating in a strong leadership capacity for the team and are ready to guide Marathon into the next chapter with an even better and brighter future. As for me, I’ll be heading to something new, somewhere else, and will update you on where and what soon.”

As recently as last month, Bungie had continued to experiment with Marathon by bringing in the game’s first true PvE mode – Vault Breaker. The mode tasked players with heading into the Cryo Archive, where they would face UESC enemies. No other players are present for this game mode aside from the player’s own team. There are also options for Duos and Trios matchmaking, as well as a solo mode.

The studio is also currently working on Season 3 content for Marathon. Slated for launch on September 22nd, the season will bring revamps to Perimeter as well as a brand-new Runner Shell.

Marathon is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. For more details, check out our thoughts on its PvE game mode, as well as our review from when the extraction shooter first came out.

As for Destiny 2, Bungie had announced that it was ending support for the shooter back in May. It got its final content update in June, and there are currently no confirmed plans for the franchise moving forward. Rumors had also indicated that, contrary to popular belief, there was no Destiny 3 in development at Bungie. In the meantime, however, Destiny and Destiny 2 are both still playable, and there don’t seem to be any plans to shut down the servers, at least for now.

Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS5 Pro offer two modes - Quality and Balanced - at 30 and 40 FPS respectively, running at dynamic 4K.

Rebel Wolves has finally revealed how its open-world action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker runs on consoles. On PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and PS5, it targets 30 FPS in Quality Mode and 40 FPS in Balanced Mode. Each offers dynamic 4K resolution with “enhanced visual quality” on PS5 Pro.

Of course, you’re probably wondering about 60 FPS, perhaps in Performance Mode. As it turns out, there is none. Xbox Series S also isn’t mentioned, which you can probably take as a hint not to bother. The only way to experience the title at higher frame rates is on PC. That is, unless PlayStation or Xbox wants to fast-track the next generation of consoles.

If it’s any consolation, performance looks solid across all three versions, and the gameplay is the best it’s ever looked, especially in combat. Lighting and shadows look pretty realistic at night, especially the ambient occlusion of torches when they realistically move across Coen.

The real appeal of The Blood of Dawnwalker will be its massive array of choices, even if it still promises a meaty playthrough at about 50 hours (though it could be far less if you’re skilled enough). Maybe that will offset any qualms about the lack of 60 FPS. It’s out on September 3rd for $70, so stay tuned for more details.

The special edition console that celebrates the 25th anniversary of Xbox is seemingly planned for a strategic launch on Black Friday.

While Microsoft had confirmed back in June that it would be releasing a special edition Xbox Series X console to celebrate Xbox’s 25th anniversary, the company hadn’t revealed any details like launch date or price. According to Billbil-kun of Dealabs, however, it looks like the launch is being lined up with Black Friday on November 27th.

In their report, Billbil-kun has also indicated that it will be priced at around $899.99 in the US, and €899.99 in Europe. It is believed to be equivalent to the price of a PS5 Pro, and will be €100 more expensive than a regular Xbox Series X 1 TB.

Microsoft hasn’t made any official statement regarding the matter. However, if the console – dubbed Xbox Series X25 – were to come out during Black Friday, it would likely lead to higher console sales for the company. The day is often marked by the presence of several deep discounts across various retailers, and as such, tends to be a day where quite a bit of shopping happens.

The Xbox Series X25 console is designed to be a throwback to the original Xbox, which was launched all the way back in 2001. Referencing the black and green aesthetics of the original, the new limited-edition console will have a translucent green plastic shell with plenty of etchings on it. The celebration also involves a similarly themed translucent green controller with “Xbox 25” printed on it next to the right analog stick.

Both the Xbox Series X25 and the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition will be available as a bundle. Players who already own a console can also simply pick up just the controller when it’s finally out.

Keeping in mind the price jump between a regular Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series X25, the controller likely has a similar price hike when compared to the standard one that comes with the console. However, details on this have not been revealed.

The console was unveiled just a few months after Asha Sharma took the reins of Xbox as the division’s new CEO. In April, she unveiled the company’s “We Are Xbox” marketing campaign, which involved the unveiling of a brand-new logo that also called back to the black and green color scheme of the original Xbox.

The new logo came shortly after Sharma and CCO Matt Booty announced that the Microsoft Gaming division was being rebranded to Xbox.

“‘Microsoft Gaming’ describes our structure, but it does not describe our ambition,” they said in a joint statement. “So, we are going back to where we started and changing our team’s name. We are Xbox. We are a high agency culture where wild and wonderful ideas thrive. Our job is not to smooth over our differences, but to connect everyone into something greater than any one studio or product.”

In the months since then, the company has gone through several major shifts, including massive layoffs affecting approximately 1,600 jobs across Xbox. Sharma also confirmed that around 1,600 more job cuts were planned for the rest of the fiscal year.

"Next month, if everything goes according to plan, I should be out of a decade of sacrifice," wrote Tim Soret on social media.

While developer Odd Tales had unveiled its pixel art adventure game, The Last Night, almost an entire decade ago at E3 2017, the studio has largely maintained its silence on development. Now, taking to social media, director Tim Soret has finally started discussing the project.

While Soret didn’t quite reveal any new details about The Last Night, he has revealed that the team behind the game has been working hard for almost ten years on its own technology to develop it. Along with this, Soret also indicated that we might finally start getting more details in September.

“Next month, if everything goes according to plan, I should be out of a decade of sacrifice. It’s about time. I’m just getting started. I have so much more to offer to the world.” In another post, he thanked investors who had helped along the way, especially in a competitive industry where many indie teams fade away before releasing any game.

“Thankful to my angels and investors who helped us resist drinking from the poisoned well in the desert while finding our path to independence. There is a cemetery of indie studios that, lured by mirages of safety, accepted to be acquired only to be killed in the first storm.”

While he acknowledged that The Last Night may not end up feeling as impressive as it did when it was first showcased back in 2017, Soret instead mentioned that the team had essentially “traded prescience for relevance” when it came to the cyberpunk title’s themes.

“When The Last Night will come out, it won’t be as visionary as when it was originally conceived. But we traded prescience for relevance. Thanks to the evolution of technology and social dynamics eerily matching the trajectory we envisioned, the setting and the story will resonate.”

The Last Night takes place in what has been described as a “post-cyberpunk” world. Players take on the role of a young man named Charlie. Finding himself struggling to adapt to the lifestyle forced on him due to the AI-based civilization that has “robbed humanity of its dignity”, Charlie decides to take matters into his own hands. The story has been described as being a personal narrative for Charlie, giving us a look at the world through his eyes.

The visual style of The Last Night blends 2D and 3D styles, with its pixel art forming the finer details in the atmospheric-looking game. The art has been drawn and animated by hand, and makes use of compositing techniques and camera work to frame its dramatic scenes.

The core gameplay in The Last Night will be a blend of exploration, conversations, stealth, and gunplay. Players will have plenty of options to deal with threats, and can even pull out their guns during conversations as an intimidation tactic.

The Last Night is the first game being developed by Odd Tales, and the studio has noted that its development started in 2014 with a free prototype during a game jam. The game was originally being developed for PC and Xbox One. It is unknown whether the target platforms have changed since then.

Drones and Facehuggers return, but players must also face new threats in the co-op shooter, like the Warden and the Siren.

With all of its Classes covered and some slick co-op gameplay, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has shifted to focus on the enemies you’ll encounter, namely the Xenomorphs. As the Colonial Marines’ primary threat, their roster has new and familiar faces, though they’re all ugly regardless.

You have the classic Drones, who swarm players and attack before quickly getting away, and usually navigate environments through the vents. The Facehuggers are different, hanging out on floors or near some eggs. Flamethrowers are a good solution, but if you attach to you, a well-timed shot from a teammate can take them out.

The Warden is new and is skilled at melee combat. Don’t let its appearance fool you, as it can move surprisingly fast and even fire acid from afar. And if you don’t want to attract a slew of Xenomorphs, take out the Siren ASAP since it will scream for backup.

Xenomorphs generally dislike fire, but carrying a combination of different weapons, be it firearms and explosives, is the key to beating them (or at least living to fight another horde). Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is out on August 25th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Cold Iron Studios drops dossiers on the Synths and Pathogen-afflicted foes.
