Sanctuary has fallen, and there's nowhere safe to hide, as players must make sacrifices and claim powers to survive at all costs.

If the wait for the new open-world StarCraft shooter sounds too long, then good news: Diablo is getting a sequel. Imaginatively titled Diablo 5, it’s launching in Spring 2029, with the Lord of Terror not only returning but finally winning.

As the cinematic trailer showcases, Sanctuary has fallen. All the heroes are dead, and as the development team detailed at BlizzCon, there are no more towns or safe places. Players will still rummage through the world, claiming different powers, but they’re seemingly dictated by what they’re willing to sacrifice.

The main theme of the sequel is “What must you become when the world has already fallen?” Blizzard will share more information at a dedicated panel over the weekend where it’s discussing the story, classes and how the world is being crafted. One thing is for sure: This could be the darkest that the series has ever been.

In the meantime, Diablo 4 is still going strong, and is set to release on September 15th for Nintendo Switch 2 with the Age of Hatred Collection. It includes the base game and both expansions – Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. Existing players can also dive into new content that day with Season of Hell’s Legacy.

If that wasn’t enough, Blizzard is adding the Amazon as a new class and a new weapon type, the Javelin, in 2027. An animated series is also in the works with Netflix, though further details are still pending.

The Dominion battles the Swarm once more, as Blizzard's sci-fi series returns with its newest entry since 2015's Legacy of the Void.

It’s been a long time coming for StarCraft fans, but Blizzard Entertainment finally confirmed the rumors: A shooter based on the acclaimed sci-fi real-time strategy is officially in development. Led by Dan Hay of Far Cry fame, it’s out in 2030, so you’ll unfortunately have to wait even longer.

But at least a slick cinematic trailer accompanies the announcement, which shows Dominion soldiers training to fight the Zerg Swarm. We follow one recruit, Holt, who steadily makes his way up the ranks. Rifle training, close-quarters combat – he excels in almost everything. And it all goes out the window when he and his fellow Terrans land on the battlefield.

A quick skirmish later, it’s revealed that there’s nothing left (not counting all the blood). As a mechanic begins repairing the suit, numerous others are seen, and it’s clear the war machine is only too happy to keep churning through recruits.

Of course, there’s no gameplay and little else revealed – including the official title – beyond the tagline of “carry their strength forward.” The only thing that Hay confirmed at BlizzCon is that this will be an open-world shooter. Based on rumors thus far, an extensive campaign and co-op are expected, though other multiplayer features should also be included. As always, stay tuned for more details and get comfy – it’s going to be a while.

Pearl Abyss continues its support, and this patch should help with any lingering PC issues ahead of Charting the Unknown.

Crimson Desert Enhanced has been quite impressive since it dropped, bringing that improved flow to the story that we’d been waiting for ever since it was first announced, and other improvements that once again brought so much to love in Pywel.

A new patch has dropped for the game’s PC and Mac versions with a bunch of improvements and fixes, chief among them being a fix for those frequent crashes that occurred with DLSS Frame Generation enabled when starting a new game. Other improvements are detailed in the patch notes, including the UI, controls, localizations, and a few other miscellaneous changes. It’s not a long list, or at least, not as long as usual, but it’s still good to know that Pearl Abyss isn’t showing any hints of slowing down support even as it’s busy lining up Charting the Unknown for its release.

It’s been a lovely year with this game, and that’s not something we usually say about single-player narrative-driven titles, considering we’re usually deep into another title once we roll the credits on it. Let’s hope that Pywel has many more fond memories in store for us as Crimson Desert heads into a new chapter later this year.

Patch Notes Version 2.02.00

Main Improvements

Content

Fixed an issue where shining a lantern on an NPC would not make their belongings visible.

Fixed an issue where housing would not become available when raising the banner at Howling Hill Camp while the inventory was full.

Fixed an issue where Thornbriar Fortress could not be liberated.

Fixed an issue where some items would disappear from the Trade Goods Storage when loading certain save files.

Fixed an issue where the letter would disappear during “The Words of Alustin” in certain situations, preventing quest progression.

Controls

Fixed an issue where chaining “Descending Force Palm” after “Aerial Force Palm” did not function properly in certain situations.

UI

Fixed an issue where UI text would appear to shake in certain situations.

Graphics / Settings

Fixed an issue where the game would crash when starting a new game with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.

Localization

Fixed various localization errors and improved localization quality across all languages.

Fixed an issue where certain Arabic text would not display correctly.

Others

Fixed an issue where visual noise on armor was particularly noticeable indoors.

Fixed an issue where Kliff’s appeared unnatural when wearing the Crow Cloth Blindfold with certain settings enabled.

Coen and Brencis’ fight is definitely one for the ages, and the night has called out loudly enough for so many of us to answer with glee.

The Blood of Dawnwalker was always one of our top picks for games to beat this year, and we’re glad to see it succeed in the way that it has.

We found it truly enjoyable in our review, and we’re now seeing how the rest of the game’s critical reception has been comparably favorable. That isn’t too much of a surprise as Coen’s adventure is packed with unpredictability, great combat, innovative mechanics, and a great story to wrap it all up. Of course, we found the dichotomy of his human and vampire sides, a side effect of being a Dawnwalker, to be particularly noteworthy thanks to how it essentially switched up the way you approach traversal and the open world.

The choice-based narrative hits hard and often, and we’ve been spellbound by things that unfolded as we dismantled Brencis’ hold on Vale Sangora. It was enough to make us wonder whether saving our family came at a price that was too high for our gruff yet charming protagonist.

If you’ve been on the fence about sinking your teeth into this one (pun intended), the trailer below may sway you over. Especially since it’s the beginning of something special that will take shape over the next few years, with a sequel already being planned.

Jesse Faden’s time at the FBC led to Dylan’s latest adventure, and knowing what’s come before could be the key to saving the present.

Control Resonant has been on our minds ever since Remedy said that it went wild with Jesse and Dylan in the upcoming addition to the popular franchise.

We’re now waiting with bated breath to see how the new gameplay blends with a story that’s bringing enough to the table to have a shot at being the franchise’s best entry yet. A new story recap that focuses on Jesse’s time in the Oldest House at the helm of the FBC has us wondering about possible connections between the past and Manhattan’s badly warped present. We’re hoping for an explanation about his newfound powers sooner rather than later, at the very least.

That the recap comes just days after the studio dropped that peek behind the curtain at the brother-and-sister duo brought to life by their talented voice actors has us intrigued about why they’re taking the spotlight in the run-up to the game’s release. Of course, we’re not ruling out a possible shocking twist, but we hope that’s just us being speculative. Either way, we’ve left the new video below so you can get caught up ahead of the game’s release on September 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

It’s always good to see a classic in the spotlight, and we’re excited to see what Nightdive tries with this new campaign.

Thief: The Dark Project Remastered has us eagerly waiting for its launch this year, and we now have another reason to get excited.

Nightdive Studios has officially confirmed a new campaign for the game called The Tarnished Mirror. The trailer includes a humorous take on the recent situation with Steam that made this reveal possible.

It’s nice to see the studio take things in stride, and we’re hoping it’s a sign of confidence that the new campaign is going to be worthy of the classic title and all the fan-created content that has been added to it over the years. The new KEX Engine and the fact that it’s going to be playable in 4K at 120fps sound like a dream come true. We can’t wait to join Garrett in some sneaky shenanigans, especially in a title that continues to stand tall among the many classics modern gaming has churned out since it hit the shelves.

There’s still no word on a final release date besides the Winter 2026 launch window for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PS4, and PC. Until then, you can chuckle at the announcement trailer below until more information comes along.

Director Jakub Rokosz reveals that "a few things had to click together", and the remaster helped in addressing various issues.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s newest expansion, Songs of the Past, wouldn’t be possible without the upcoming remaster, out later this month. It’s bringing the region of Letten – and Dandelion’s story – to life in ways that weren’t possible before. However, it also enables Geralt’s new weapon, the chain.

As it turns out, CD Projekt RED actually wanted to add it with the base game, as revealed by Fool’s Theory owner and game director Jakub Rokosz in an interview with BBC News. “We were talking about implementing the chain even during the original The Witcher 3. It was impossible to do at the time for various technological reasons and challenges.

“A few things had to click together, and we were able to address those challenges and issues during the remaster, so then we were able to implement a weapon that feels just natural and very fluid.”

Those who have read Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels will know that it’s a regular weapon. By finally adding it, Rokosz believes this “realizes a fantasy.”

CD Projekt RED senior quest designer Despoina Anetaki also noted that it fits the expansion’s “narrative theming.” “It fits with all the new enemies that work with the chain. We were able to do crowd control with the swarmions that swarm you, and you have to keep them away from you.” And of course, for those who “might be sick of the crossbow by now,” it’s a “cool weapon.”

It’s tough to disagree. After all, you can pull enemies closer to Geralt with the chain and target specific body parts, perhaps lining up some stylish executions in the process. You can also use it as a mid-range weapon and whip targets, which should feel satisfying. It requires Adrenaline Points as a trade-off, however, and that’s something that CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory are still working on.

The Witcher 3’s Songs of the Past launches in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. We’re still waiting for a release date but in the meantime, you can look forward to the Remastered upgrade for the base game on September 29th.

"Use the settings however you need to and play Control Resonant on your terms," says lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov.

Control Resonant doesn’t have any difficulty options, but Remedy Entertainment has another way to help mitigate the challenge if it proves too much. On the PlayStation Blog, lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov detailed how Assist Mode lets you adjust enemy aggression, enemy projectile speed, and the Perfect Dodge window to make things easier.

But that’s not all. Whether it’s incoming or outgoing damage, or even the amount of Falter inflicted on enemies, which can break their stance and expose them to executions, it’s entirely up to you. You can also adjust Power Recovery Speed, giving Dylan access to his abilities more often, and Enhanced Melee Magnetizing which will “make positioning during melee attacks more forgiving.”

And if that’s not enough, and you want the most stress-free experience possible, enable Immortality and even pull off kills and Falters with a single hit. You can enable it at any time, and there are presets available. Of course, the biggest change from the original is the option to increase the difficulty using Assist Mode.

Perhaps most surprising, however, is that Remedy isn’t locking any Trophies or Achievements when using Assist Mode. “Your time is valuable, and how you experience the game is ultimately up to you,” says Mohov. “That’s why we don’t gate any trophies or achievements behind Assist Mode. Use the settings however you need to and play Control Resonant on your terms.” It definitely fits the series’ theme of seizing control, if nothing else.

Launching on September 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, Control Resonant is set seven years after the first game’s events. With containment failing at The Oldest House and Manhattan facing a paranatural calamity, Dylan Faden is the best option for the FBC to fight back.
Along with enemy hordes constantly getting bigger in Saber's co-op shooters, Tim Willits also spoke about how vehicles could play a role.

When it comes to shooters with co-op elements, Saber Interactive has earned quite the reputation in recent times thanks to games like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. In an interview with IGN, Saber Interactive’s CCO, Tim Willits, spoke about how the tech advancements made with Toxic Command will end up benefiting the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.

While John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando wasn’t the runaway commercial hit that parent company Pullup would have wanted, Willits has noted that the studio has been quite happy with the co-op shooter, affirming that Saber is continuing to support it with upcoming updates.

“We’re really happy with it. Focus’ opinion: they’re a publicly traded company, so they have to say what they have to say. We’ll leave that to them. But for us, we’re really excited about it. We have some new stuff coming out. We actually have a good player base.

“It brought more people into the Saber universe. When I say Saber universe, it’s people who fall in love with one game who now start to look at us, like Space Marine 2 with our 14 million players. It’s f***ing ridiculous. Just a few! And then World War Z, remember, that’s 30 million people that played that game. It’s nuts. More people played that game than saw the movie or read the book.”

He went on to talk about how the technology that was used for the massive enemy hordes in Toxic Commando will also be seen in Space Marine 3. “You can see the progression with our technology moves. I feel that it was a good brick in that Saber wall.”

“We’re growing the company, we’re growing the project, we’re growing the technology. It was profitable for us. We don’t lose money. We don’t lose money on anything.”

Going deeper on the subject of the tech advances, Willits noted that the technology has been maturing quite well, and even noted how Toxic Commando introduced player-driveable vehicles to Saber’s co-op shooter repertoire.

“You can see the bigger swarms, you can see the bigger areas, you can see the better AI. There’s cars — you didn’t have cars in Space Marine 2. I’m not saying we’re going to have cars in Space Marine 3. I’m just saying the technology is growing and developing, and that’s our technology. So we can focus on technology pillars that will support our future games like Space Marine 3 and Jurassic Park — that uses the same technology.”

When it comes to general development progress on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Willits said that it has been “going great”, and that the success of Space Marine 2 has also been encouraging. “Our DLC’s been super successful. People love the mods. It helps the team with experience, knowing what fans actually want, making sure that we adhere to the true Warhammer 40K universe franchise.”

“The success of Space Marine 2 has really made the team passionate about making sure that Space Marine 3 is even better. They feel that there’s this confidence and passion and vigor, and you can see it. When you talk to the team, they’re just in it. So I’m really excited about that.”

Willits also confirmed earlier this month that Saber Interactive is not using generative AI for the development of licensed games like Space Marine 3.

Despite having the slowest acceleration, the Skim Speeder can blow past the rest and maintain speed with Knife Edge cornering.

Variety is the spice of life in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, but while the Land Speeder boasts resilience and the Speeder Bike excels at acceleration, the Skim Speeder is about top speed. Check out the latest episode of Under the Hood with Shade’s mechanic Hibi for more.

The Skim Speeder falls between the above two vehicles in terms of resilience. It won’t tank all the damage like the Land Speeder, but should still outmuscle the Speeder Bike. While the slow acceleration won’t win over many racers initially, keeping at it delivers a very high top speed.

The challenge is maintaining it. Thanks to Knife Edge cornering, you can navigate some of the trickiest turns without losing any momentum. Turn too sharply, however, and you’ll pay for it, and getting back to top speed can be difficult. That’s where the Ramjet and Afterburner come in, especially in hot and cold conditions, though you’ll still need to master the vehicle to excel.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches on October 6th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. There are still other vehicles to detail, so stay tuned for the next episode.
