Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is Getting New Game Plus: “It’s At The Top of the List”

Game director Richard Knight says the team is looking at how Shadows handled the mode, but "our games are not exactly the same."

Given its success, it only felt like a matter of time before Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced would receive new post-launch features and content. The latest Title Update is more about bug fixes and improvements, but the game director Richard Knight confirms that New Game Plus is indeed in the works.

“Well, this is the one thing I can say: Yes, we’re working on that right now,” he told JorRaptor in an interview. “For sure. It’s one of the first things. Partly because Shadows has already built their version, so it’s considered a low-risk feature for us. We’re still doing the work, so I can’t promise exactly a day or anything, but we’re definitely working on it. It’s just such a natural thing.”

While that foundational work on Shadows is notable (with Knight joking that associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois “did the hard work”), it might not be one-to-one. That’s because, shock of shocks, “our games are not exactly the same. We have different challenges in terms of how that works. We can’t skip to the hideout, necessarily. But we’re looking into it.”

He adds that if it were up to him, there would be bonus rewards for playing New Game Plus, but it’s not necessarily a lock. The team is holding “production discussions” about the mode and the amount of time required, especially when it comes to creating new items. “Every item we make needs a model. Sometimes it needs cloth sim. All sorts of things.” So don’t be surprised if there’s only one new weapon or outfit as a reward.

You also shouldn’t really look at a release date anytime soon because of such factors. “I really can’t promise anything – just to say it’s at the top of the list of things. There’s a lot of things. Some are harder than others, but it’s something we definitely want to get done.”

Of course, the team is also looking to address other areas of feedback, though whether that includes combat mechanics present in the original that were removed for the remake remains to be seen. Either way, it looks like fans will have to wait for a concrete roadmap, much less a date, for all of this.

In the meantime, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold over two million units on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s a pretty fun time, as we noted in our review (despite some minor hiccups) and can be superior to the original in many ways.
