Chocobo GP Won’t Receive Any More Large Scale Updates After Today

Premium currency Mythril is no longer for sale on the Nintendo eShop, and the in-game store will disappear on January 6th (JST).

It’s been a rough year for Square Enix’s live service games, with Babylon’s Fall and Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier servers shutting down next year. Chocobo GP, the Nintendo Switch racing game with Final Fantasy characters that launched this past March, isn’t seeing its servers shut down. However, the publisher announced that there would be no more large-scale updates after Season 5, which starts today.

This means no new characters or maps in the future. Season 5 is also the last time Prize Pass levels (essentially Battle Pass tiers) will be used. Rankings will remain, functioning like the off-season, and Mythril, the game’s premium currency, has been removed from sale on the Nintendo eShop.

Those who still have Mythril can spend it until the shop disappears on January 6th, 2023 (JST). All Mythril will also become invalid at the same time. The shop will still have items for Mythril during Season 5, but once it’s gone, you may see them added to the Ticket or Gil Shops, so you won’t have to spend Mythril. If you missed items from Seasons 1 to 4, this might be an opportunity to acquire them.

Chocobo GP will remain playable but could die a slow death without any new content. Time will tell, so stay tuned for more updates in the future.
