Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition Announced for PC

The Definitive Edition release features a number of enhancements on top of the classic RTS, including improved visuals and UI.

Relic Entertainment has announced that it is working on bringing back its seminal real-time strategy game, Company of Heroes, with a fresh coat of paint. Dubbed Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition, the title was announced with a trailer, which you can check out below.

Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition will feature just about everything from the original Company of Heroes, including three cinematic campaigns, four unique playable factions, and more than 50 maps for multiplayer and skirmish modes. There are also going to be a host of improvements to the gameplay and UI. Visuals will be seeing a boost thanks to enhancements to textures and lighting.

The modding community for the original Company of Heroes isn’t being left behind either, with Relic confirming that the Definitive Edition will feature support for 64-bit legacy mods.

The original Company of Heroes was released all the way back in 2006, and saw quite a bit of critical acclaim thanks to its unique gameplay elements that encouraged players to play more aggressively. Rather than the typical genre gameplay of staying at base and gathering resources, Company of Heroes instead generates resources for players when they capture control points. This early battle for control points encourages players to get into fights with each other more often.

The title saw the release of two expansion packs following its initial release – Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. Each of these brought their own enhancements to the base game and multiplayer with the addition of more maps and factions.

Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition is coming to PC. However, it doesn’t yet have a release date.
