Counter-Strike is probably the most consistently popular multiplayer shooter in the world. Challengers and pretenders come and go, but Counter-Strike – which started out as a mod for Valve’s Half Life before it became a full fledged standalone game, and has continued to evolve and change over the years – still remains king.
And now, a new Counter-Strike game is headed to Steam. But unlike Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the last mainline entry in the series that released just a few years ago, Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is a little different. In fact, as the name suggests, it’s about taking zombies out in an arena shooter.
“Today we are announcing the latest creation from Nexon in the Counter-Strike world, one that builds upon years of success in developing CS Online for Asia,” said Valve’s Doug Lombardi. “This title showcases that work in new, zombie, and classic form.”
Nexon is the Korean company that has worked with Valve previously. The title, which will be free to play, is slated for a western release in the third quarter of 2014.
