Crytek’s financial troubles have been no secret despite the developer failing to acknowledge as much. Crytek UK, which is developing Homefront: The Revolution, is reportedly without senior staff and game director Hasit Zala is no longer at the studio.
You can now add a public departure to the list Crytek’s Lead Research and Development Graphics Engineer Tiago Sousa has left to work on id Software’s Doom. He will be working on the game as well as id Tech 6, the graphics engine powering the game. Sousa previously worked on a number of Crytek projects including the first Far Cry, Crysis, Ryse: Son of Rome and “undisclosed multiplatform projects” according to his LinkedIn profile.
Crytek’s loss is id Software’s gain, especially with the latter having seen an upswing in momentum after revealing Doom following a long hiatus. The first person shooter was showcased at QuakeCon 2014 though Bethesda said it wouldn’t be till 2015 when a formal announcement happened.
