If you thought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was ambitious, take a gander at CD Projekt RED’s other big title, Cyberpunk 2077. Though little is known about the game, the development team is currently toying with the idea of having non-playable characters who speak a variety of languages that the player would otherwise not understand.
CD Projekt RED’s Sebastian Stepie espouses on this concept: “Decisions are not yet made, but we are thinking about some kind of system which could tell more about the game world. The idea is to record everything in its original language.
“If there are, for example, Mexicans in the game, they will speak with slang. All performed by Mexican actors. Then a player could try a translating implant, and according to its level, he will get better or worse translation.”
It’s certainly a high fallutin’ concept, especially since most AAA games go for a handful of languages at best. Let’s see if it makes it to the final game when Cyberpunk 2077 releases in 2015.
