David Cage of Quantic Dream had a spiffy time at this year’s E3. His new title Beyond: Two Souls garnered quite a bit of attention, thanks in part to Ellen Paige’s presence and the cinematic direction it takes.
However, he also feels there’s quite the dearth of innovation these days. In an interview with GamesIndustryBiz, he stated:
This industry will die if it doesn’t try more to be innovative…to come up with new ideas and to talk a bit more – not necessarily serious, but deeper things at some point.
He also thinks more games like Journey are needed.
It’s a breath of fresh air; this is necessary in any medium. How many first person shooters can we create per year? How many can we play per year? How many of them will be successful? Even from a business point of view, does it make any sense? I’m not sure.
