Destiny Not Going Free to Play, Bungie Clarifies Recent “Free” Version

Unsurprisingly, it's a trial demo.

Over the past few days, Destiny players might have noticed the game showing up in online storefronts as free. This sparked rumours of the game going free to play because of course it would.

However, Bungie has since clarified that this is for a trial version of the game. Yes, even though it downloads the entire base experience. “The original Destiny adventure may appear to be free on some digital console marketplaces.

“While players may download the Destiny base game, they will only be granted access to the Destiny Trial Mode for free. If players wish to progress through the original Destiny adventure via digital download, they will be required to purchase Destiny – The Collection to gain access to this content.”

If you pre-purchase Destiny: The Collection now, then you’ll be able to play all the content available – including the base game, The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King – even though Rise of Iron will be out on September 20th.
