The recent cover story done by Game Informer for Destiny’s Rise of Iron revealed a ton of new information about the expansion. In a new podcast, the publication talked a bit more about some of the new things players can expect.
On the story front, it was noted that the humour has been dialed down from The Taken King and Ghost is more talkative. This expansion will also be more focused on the tale of the Iron Lords and the player’s journey to become one. Like The Taken King, there will be fragments and hidden Ghosts to collect.
Some new mechanics are interesting – you’ll come across mimic chests which spring traps rather than rewards. It was also noted that the story may come across as short and it’s not all that big a leap forward from The Taken King.
As for Archon’s Forge, the new PvE activity, it will act a lot like Court of Oryx and Prison of Elders with five minute encounters and various difficulties. The arena is akin to Prison of Elders in size and fits other Guardians besides your team. For the most part, the wave-based encounters seem more in-depth than Court of Oryx.
Finally, speaking about the new Strike, it was noted that it embraces variation, meaning there will be different encounters through each run with different doors leading to different fights. The Summoning Pits and Devil’s Lair are the returning Year One strikes but they’ve been re-done quite well apparently, even sporting new dialogue.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is out on September 20th for Xbox One and PS4. There’s more information from the GI podcast so stay tuned.
