Detective Pikachu Trailer Crosses 60 Million Views on YouTube

This could end up becoming the most successful video game movie of all time, if initial metrics are anything to go by.

Pokemon finally goes to Hollywood next year when Detective Pikachu launches. The first trailer for the movie, which stars Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds as the eponymous detective Pikachu, released couple of weeks ago, and it went viral afterwards.

The sheer popularity of the trailer means that it has now crossed 60 million views on YouTube between two versions posted across two channels. This in turn means it is actually doing far better than another blockbuster movie trailer that was released that same day—the second trailer for Toy Story 4, which is sitting at less than a third that number, with 14 million views so far only.

While trailer views are in no way indicative of the final performance of either movie, it does at least indicate that there is a lot more interest in Detective Pikachu right now, than there is in Toy Story 4. Assuming the movie ends up being as good as it looks, it could become a pretty huge deal.

If you want to play the game it is based on, Detective Pikachu is out now on Nintendo 3DS, and it’s pretty darn good.
