Detroit: Become Human Launches With Just 1/4th The Sales of Heavy Rain in UK

Still topped the charts, though.

It seems like the UK isn’t too in the mood for David Cage’s games anymore- it seems so because, according to Gfk-Tracker’s newest charts tracking software sales in the country on a weekly basis, Detroit: Become Human had a debut with only a quarter of the sales that Heavy Rain did back in 2010.

Now, to be fair, Detroit still topped charts, and digital sales are not counted in this tally (Heavy Rain never released digitally on the PS3)- but even accounting for those factors, that Heavy Rain sold 400% as much as Detroit is truly, well, something. It’s a pretty sharp decline, is what I am saying.

In better news, though, the game still could have sales and do well- however, I do think the novelty of a cinematic adventure game like the ones Cage makes is gone now. In the years since Heavy Rain, titles such as Until Dawn, Life is Strange, and Telltale’s catalog have done the same thing as Cage’s games, arguably better- so maybe there’s just genre burnout now.

We’ll see in the coming weeks how well its legs hold up, at least.
