Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal issued statement before the weekend about placing an “added emphasis” online experiences in its future games. The statement came from studio head David Anfossi and said the studio would be “striving to continually provide players with content that is memorable and impactful.”
Needless to say, this got several fans worried. Was Eidos Montreal forgoing its memorable single-player campaigns to focus solely towards online titles? Would there be shoehorned multiplayer components into Deus Ex? It’s easy to see where such confusion could arise, especially when you can’t quantify “added emphasis”.
Anfossi thus went on Twitter and clarified that the studio would not be giving up single player games, citing “this is what we like to do.” He also noted that the studio likes trying new things but won’t abandon the things that made the studio what it is.
Perhaps the most interesting part of these tweets is Anfossi telling people to “stay tuned” if they enjoyed strong action adventure games. Hinting at the next Deus Ex? Gameplay footage from the developer’s Avengers game? We’ll have to wait and see.
