With us now knowing what the hardware is like under the hood for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the fanboy wars are on all around the internet. Comparing these numbers are a favorite of console warriors, and one of the big focuses is teraflops. But, apparently, some developers are saying that may not be the number to be fixated on, at least that’s what one Tom Warren says.
For those unfamiliar, Tom Warren is the Senior Editor of The Verge. Due to that he’s got to read over a lot of feedback on the systems from various developers, and it seems they’re more in line with thinking the CPU and SSD are the most important thing for features like frame rate and cross-play. He doesn’t dismiss the importance of teraflops per say, just that it may not be as important as you think. Warren uses this logic to say the rumored Xbox Lockhart won’t “undermine” next gen games due to its alleged lower teraflops.
It’s in line with what we’ve heard before, such as recent comments from the developer of Hellpoint. Warren doesn’t name any names in his comment, however, so take it as you will. Of course, in the end, a lot of these numbers won’t mean anything to most of us until the things are in our living rooms.
