Developers will be able to code to the metal on PS4 – Yoshida

Edge over PCs.

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony World Wide Studios president, has revealed that developers will be able to code to the metal and that will make the PS4 outperform the PC in some ways. What that term means is that developers can utilize the hardware much effectively.

“Aaah, so we have to see… It depends on how we define the layer,” he told Eurogamer.

“The way we are approaching PS4 now is allowing developers to go really deep onto the metal, so Richard [Leadbetter of Digital Foundry] will know how that availability to the deeper hardware makes the console games way better than some PC or mobile approach. But if we do that, it will definitely require hardware to develop games.”

The PS4 was revealed yesterday and you can check out our complete coverage here. The console will be released in 2013 according to Sony.
