Following the cancellation of E3 2020, while we’re yet to hear about the plans of companies like Bethesda, Warner Bros, and Square Enix, many others who were scheduled to be at the show have confirmed that they will be hosting replacement digital events, including the likes of Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Nintendo. Another company who’ll be doing that is Devolver Digital (who were actually the ones who tipped everyone off on the cancellation before it was even officially announced).
The publisher recently took to Twitter, expressing its disappointment over E3’s cancellation, stating that they are “genuinely bummed about”. They went on to say that though they have “lots to juggle,” for now they are planning on having “a livestream Devolver Direct / press conference and possibly more” in place of their cancelled E3 2020 plans. We can probably expect more concrete details in the coming weeks.
Given that the ESA itself is considering replacing its plans for E3 with a digital event, it’s not surprising that most publishers who were going to be involved in the show are going down that road- that said, it remains to be seen how many of them will be throwing their lot in with the ESA’s replacement event, and how many will go off and do their own thing.
