DICE Talks About Battlefield 4 Classes, Field Upgrades

Host of updates on upcoming DICE shooter.

Arguably the most anticipated shooter of this year, Battlefield 4 looks like it will take Battlefield 3 as its foundation, and then expand on that vision where Battlefield 3 had to compromise due to last gen hardware.

In a new blog post on their website, DICE talks about how they have taken the base classes of Battlefield 3 and expanded upon them in Battlefield 4. “Going into Battlefield 4, we knew we wanted to take the four playable classes from Battlefield 3 as a starting point. We’ve tweaked them to be more versatile and more highly specialized within their fields. Now more than ever, you can explore a wide range of combat roles and sub-roles when picking your load out and kit.”

DICE also talks about the three armies in the game- US, Russian, and Chinese. Two of these will be available to the player based on the map, game type, and playlist (although if one should have their own server, they can decide exactly which two of these factions will be available).

DICE also proceeds to talk about some of the more controversial mechanics- such as the suppression system in Battlefield 3- and how they have extensively redesigned it based on feedback. They also talk about field upgrades, and how the mechanic encourages squad and team based gameplay, to discourage lone wolfs, by allowing for more field upgrade points if you fulfill squad based objectives.

Battlefield 4 launches later this year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
