One of the best games of last year was the surprise hit sensation Doki Doki Literature Club, a visual novel on PC that seems to be, on the surface of things, your average dating sim style anime visual novel, but which ends up becoming something… more.
It became a huge success based on nothing but word of mouth- huge enough, in fact, that the game has now been downloaded over 2 million times, Team Salvato confirmed on Twitter. To be a bit more specific, we are looking at slightly over 2.1 million downloads right now. That’s excellent news- more people need to subject themselves to the ultimately amazing meta narrative techniques of this game.
The best part? It’s absolutely free (though you can buy yourself a “Fan Pack” after you finish the game, if you want to support the developers). It’s available on PC and Mac, and will run on a toaster- so you have no excuse to not at least give it a try.
